About the Internships:
The Calving Corner internships create a unique opportunity for college-age individuals who are passionate about the dairy industry to:
- Share their knowledge with the public
- Expand their familiar or past dairy experiences
- Interact with members of Pennsylvania’s dairy and agriculture industries
- Provide critical hands-on support to a live dairy cow birthing center during the Pennsylvania Farm Show
The internships provide a scholarship ($150 per day) for each day the recipient participates as an intern at the Calving Corner. In addition, food reimbursement and lodging are provided. Interns are typically expected to participate for all eight days of the event and may earn up to $1,200, based on their actual days of participation.
Interns will work collaboratively with a team to ensure the success of the Calving Corner! Team consists of the Calving Corner project manager & herdsman, host farmers & their representatives, and Calving Corner committee members, supporters & volunteers. Interns are expected to interact in a positive manner with the public, providing information and knowledge about the dairy industry and answering questions.
Interns must have:
- Direct, hands-on experience working with dairy cows and newborn calves, including confidence in their handling and care.
- A positive, professional attitude and willingness to engage with the public in educational and outreach settings.
- A genuine passion for the dairy industry and a commitment to representing and promoting the industry positively.
- The ability to work collaboratively, follow instructions, and remain positive and dependable in a busy public environment.
Preferred candidate would be:
- Pursuing a degree in Dairy Science, Animal Science, Agriculture, or a closely related field, or actively pursuing a career in the dairy industry.
- A Pennsylvania resident, currently enrolled in a Pennsylvania college or university, and/or in the final year of post-secondary education
