We partnered with the Pennsylvania Beef Council to host live cattle handling demonstration and training sessions on March 24 and 25, 2017! The dairy-focused day was hosted on Star Rock Farm in Conestoga, Pa.
Dr. Höglund, veterinarian and educator with the Livestock Trust Institute lead the hands-on cattle stockmanship clinic attended by farm owners and employees. Attendees were introduced to how cattle learn and some low-energy cow handling techniques to improve the outcome for both people and heifers being milked for the first time. Participation qualified for Beef Quality Assurance Re-Certification and/or Level 2 training.
Emily Yeiser Stepp, National Milk Producers Federation, joined the group to discuss the FARM Animal Care Version 3.0 evaluation. Farmers received a comprehensive look at what the FARM Animal Care evaluation entails and left with numerous resources to help prepare for their evaluation.
