January – April 2017: Environment Compliance Workshops

Joint Initiative to Host Environmental Compliance Workshops
The Pennsylvania Center for Dairy Excellence and Center for Beef Excellence announce a joint initiative to provide support and resources to both dairy and beef farms in meeting baseline agricultural compliance. The Centers will work in partnership with local conservation districts to support and conduct workshops helping dairy and beef farmers write Agriculture Erosion & Sediment and/or Manure Management Plans. The Centers will also offer financial assistance to dairy or beef farms that need professional assistance in developing plans and meeting baseline compliance. Pre-registration required for all workshops.

Lehigh County workshops on February 4 and 18, 2017
Best Western, 300 Gateway Drive, Bethlehem, PA from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.
$20 fully refundable registration fee, lunch included.
The workshops provide direct assistance to farmers and livestock owners to begin an Agricultural Erosion & Sedimentation Plan (Feb 4) and potentially complete a Manure Management Plan (Feb 18) that is compliant with state regulations. Perry County workshops on February 22 and March 1, 2017
Greenwood High School, 405 E Sunbury St., Millerstown, PA from 5 – 9 p.m.
Both workshops free, dinner included.
Receive instructions and direct assistance with mapping, and creation of an Agricultural Erosion & Sedimentation Plan (conservation plan) to be in compliance with agricultural regulations. March workshop builds on February workshop – must attend 2/22 to attend 3/1. To register, contact Scott Flanders at 717-582-5139. 

Tioga County workshops on February 23 and March 2, 2017

No charge for workshop, lunch included.

Bradford County workshop on February 24, 2017

The Bradford Conservation District is hosting a farm mapping and plan writing workshop that can help you complete a map of your farm to be used directly in a written Agricultural Erosion & Sediment (Conservation Plan) or a Manure Management Plan for your farm. Clinton County workshop on March 8, 2017

The Clinton Conservation District will host a farm mapping and plan writing workshop that can help you complete a map of your home farm to be used directly in a written Agricultural Erosion & Sediment (Conservation Plan) or a Manure Management Plan. To register, call Lisa Blazure, ag tech, at (570) 726-3798 ext. 3803.

Luzerne County workshops March 6 and 27, 2017
3/6 Location TBD from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
3/27 Emergency Management Agency building, 185 Water St., Wilkes-Barre, PA from 9 – 3 p.m.
These workshops will provide PA One Stop training to producers and to assist with the development of an Agricultural Erosion & Sedimentation Plan.  Two separate groups will be hosted – one for north county farmers and a second from south county farmers with the same agenda repeated at both. Producers who will need further assistance with completing their plan can make a follow up meeting with Luzerne CD staff. To register, contact Amy Salansky, ag tech, at (570) 938-3022. 

Cambria County workshops on March 22 and 29, 2017
Cambria County Extension, 499 Manor Drive, Ebensburg, PA from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.
No charge for workshop, snacks and beverages provided.
The Cambria Conservation District is hosting a farm mapping and plan writing workshop that can help you complete a map of your farm to be used directly in a written Agricultural Erosion & Sediment Control Plan (2nd day workshop) for your home farm. Washington County workshops on April 1 and 8, 2017
Washington Conservation District office, 2800 N Main St. #105, Washington, PA from 9 a.m. – 12 noon
No fee for workshop, breakfast or lunch provided.
The Washington Conservation District is hosting a farm mapping and plan writing workshop that can help you complete a map of your home farm to be used directly in a written Agricultural Erosion & Sediment Control Plan (2nd day workshop).
